Operation A.B.L.E. of Greater Boston Announces Recipient of 2017 Starfish Thrower Award

BOSTON, MA November 28, 2016 – Operation A.B.L.E. of Greater Boston, the state’s only organization whose sole mission is to get job seekers 45+ back to work, has announced that the recipient of its 2017 Starfish Thrower award for outstanding community service will be Eric H. Schultz, President and Chief Executive Officer of Harvard Pilgrim Health Care, Inc.

Joan Cirillo, President & CEO of Operation A.B.L.E., in making the announcement, said, “For the past 12 years, the Starfish Thrower award has celebrated a leader from Massachusetts who has made a significant difference in his or her community. We are proud to continue our tradition with Eric Schultz, who has a long and outstanding commitment in the health care field, as well as with non-profits.

Schultz’s non-profit work includes his involvement with the Schwartz Center for Compassionate Healthcare, and with United Way and the American Heart Association. He is a Distinguished Eagle Scout, and regional president for the Boy Scouts Northeast Region, and was named among the 50 Most Influential Bostonians by the Boston Business Journal in 2013 and 2014, as well as a Leader in Diversity in 2014.

The Starfish Thrower Award is the signature fund raising event for Operation A.B.L.E. Next year’s Starfish Thrower award to Schultz will be made at a festive Gala to be held on Monday, May 8th at Boston’s Seaport Hotel. Susan Wornick, retired newscaster at WCVB-TV, will be the host. Further details about the Gala will be forthcoming at a later date.

Since it began, more than 35,000 individuals have been assisted by Operation A.B.L.E., which is celebrating its 35th Anniversary.
